Our commitment to accessibility

Our business activities, regulatory work, education efforts, interactions and corporate culture are guided by the tenets of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility. Given our authority to regulate BC’s consumer protection laws, we acknowledge our responsibility to all British Columbians and honour the impact we can have to effect change within the province.

Our Accessibility Action Plan

Our Accessibility Action Plan is based on the requirements of the Accessible British Columbia Act (the Act), guidance from the Province of British Columbia and Accessible Employers BC, input from our Accessibility Advisory Committee, and insights from other interest-holders. Our plan is a roadmap for lessening or removing barriers and promoting inclusivity at Consumer Protection BC. Our plan outlines specific actions in four key areas:

  1. information, technology, and communications
  2. hiring and employment
  3. identification of biases
  4. the built environment

Our plan is a living document and will change over time. It will be reviewed and fully updated at least once every three years to ensure adherence to the Act, and we will create annual reports to share our progress, including how and public feedback is being addressed.

Provide accessibility feedback

People with disabilities have told us that barriers make it hard to experience full and equal participation in society. Please help us understand any barriers you have witnessed or experienced with us, which will be used to improve accessibility.

You can give us accessibility feedback in any of these ways:

In your feedback, please include:

  • what you were trying to access
  • where the barrier happened and what the barrier was
  • any recommendations you might have for removing the barrier

All feedback will be presented to our Accessibility Advisory Committee who will recommend actions to remove or lessen the barriers described. You will not get a status update about your feedback. If you share your contact information, you may get a follow-up request from us wanting to understand your experience better. If there are no questions, you may not be contacted.

Protecting your privacy

Including personal information when providing accessibility feedback is up to you. Any personal information collected will only be used to help us identify barriers to inclusion. Section 26(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act allows us to collect this information. If you have any questions about the collection, use and disclosure of your information, visit our privacy page or contact the information and privacy officer at privacy@consumerprotectionbc.ca.
