We are responsible for licensing and regulating specific sectors in British Columbia (like payday lending, travel agencies, funeral providers, and more). As part of BC’s consumer protection laws, our licensed businesses must make sure that we have their correct business address. So, why does this matter?

The law

The law says that our licensed businesses must provide us with the most up-to-date address. For most of these businesses, they also need to report a change of address to us within 14 days. This is spelled out in the regulations for each sector.

Why it matters to you

  1. You know where to find them.

When their location is accurate, you know where to go if you have a problem or have a question for the business.

  2. Basic exchange of information can take place.

Cheques can be sent and received, and basic administrative tasks can be completed.

  3. Helps to ensure the business is operating within the law.

When we know where they are, we can perform inspections and help businesses understand what they need to do to follow the law. We can also identify any serious infractions that put consumers at risk.
