Early last month, we welcomed Rob Gialloreto to the helm of our organization. Here are three things I bet you never knew about our new President and CEO:

  1. During a national high school debating tournament in 1979 at Queens University, Rob and his debating colleague, then in the ninth grade, were charged with arguing on the affirmative of the following resolution: “Be it resolved that the road to happiness is always under construction.” Despite a valiant debate strategy that focused on Rob’s struggles to find happiness; the team finished a close second to a team in Grade 12.
  2. Being a busy guy is nothing new for Rob. While completing his graduate studies at Springfield College in Massachusetts, he balanced his time between leading a women’s varsity rugby team as head coach, playing rugby on the city’s men’s team, interning for the NHL’s Hartford Whalers in communications, and singing and dancing his way through a college production of West Side Story.
  3. Rob notes that he’s had a few brushes with greatness. During the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, in between periods at the Gold Medal Men’s Hockey Game between the USA and Canada, he was rushing through the arena to the media centre to file a second-period summary and ran (literally) into PGA professional golfer Fred Couples. Apologizing, Rob thought to himself, ‘he’s pretty sturdy for a golfer.’
