Home Inspections: Who to Talk To If you have a Complaint Print E-mail

Buying a new home is a big deal and many people choose to use the services of a home inspector prior to making such a large purchase.  We sometimes get calls  from consumers who want to know who to speak to about an issue they have about the quality of service they have received from a BC home inspector.

Although Consumer Protection BC licenses this industry in the province, designated associations are responsible for assessing the qualifications for home inspectors in BC.  So what do we recommend if you have a complaint about a home inspector?

  • Find out which designated association the home inspector was certified with.
  • Contact the appropriate association and ask about their home inspection criteria and certification requirements. This will help you educate yourself about the requirements.
  • Let the association know that you have had a problem with one of their members and attempt to remedy the situation.
  • If you are dissatisfied with the outcome of the complaint you have the option of involving a lawyer.
  • If you feel that the process used to handle your complaint was unfair, please let us know.
