The Licensing Team

Written by  Michelle

Who knows what cemeteries, travel agents and payday lenders have in common? The answer: they are all licensed by Consumer Protection BC!

Consumer Protection BC’s licensing team is responsible for reviewing and issuing licenses to a number of industries. These industries include: debt collection, motion pictures, cemetery and funeral services, home inspections, payday loans, telemarketing, and travel. To find a licensed business you can access our “Licence Search” tool.

When you do business with a Consumer Protection BC licensed business, you can be assured that our hardworking licensing team has reviewed important information such as criminal record checks, financial reports, municipal business licenses, and insurance coverage. Each industry is required to renew their licenses yearly so information is current. This means the licensing team reviews and renews thousands of licenses each year. Here are some current stats:

  • We currently license over 1100 travel agencies and travel wholesalers
  • 351 debt collection agencies are licensed to collect from BC debtors
  • There are 93 licensed movie theatres in BC

For more information on each of the industres, please visit our website: www.consumerprotectionbc.ca. If you have questions about licensing or licensing requirements and would like to get in contact with a licensing officer, you can contact them toll free:  1-888-777-4393 or by email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. I have been using Faxless Payday loans for some time. Almost always they withdraw their funds one day before the contract date. This leaves me with extra bank charges on top of their rediculous interest charges by faxless.
